ISHPEMING — Ishpeming merchants want shoppers to know that parking is not a problem despite one block of Main Street being blocked off for the “Downtown Mall” through the New Year. “There’s plenty of parking available in downtown Ishpeming,” said Joyce Dupras, president of the Greater Ishpeming Chamber of Commerce retail committee and owner of Parties Unlimited. Parking is available on Hematite Drive, Cleveland Avenue, and Pearl Street, she said. Dupras said community caroling is conducted in the mall at 7 p.m. Thursdays, and Santa Claus meets kids from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and 2 to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

MARQUETTE — Santa Claus has notified the Chamber of Commerce office that he is going to visit St. Mary’s hospital, Northern Michigan Children’s clinic, and St. Luke’s hospital, as well as the Holy Family Orphanage, when he arrives in Marquette on Monday. “I found upon inquiry that there are a number of little tots at the hospitals and the clinic,” he said, “and, of course, I shall make it a point to drop in and say hello to them. And if the doctors permit, perhaps I may have a bag of candy for each and every one.” There will be close to 140 little boys and girls ready to greet the merry old elf when he visits the orphanage, and the little tots are awaiting the arrival of the Christmas gift bearer with keen anticipation. Santa will have a bag of candy for each.
