NEGAUNEE — One teen died and another was injured in a Friday morning accident in Negaunee, the Negaunee Police Department.

Police said that at approximately 5:30 a.m., Friday, the department was dispatched to a personal-injury accident at the intersection of U..S. 41 and Teal Lake Avenue. A black Subaru Impreza, driven by an 18-year-old female with a 16-year-old passenger, was traveling north on Teal Lake Avenue when it disregarded a flashing red light at the intersection.

The Subaru then was struck by a semi-logging truck driven by a 27-year-old male, that was traveling east on U.S. 41.

The Negaunee Fire Department said the driver of the Subaru had to be extricated from the vehicle.

At the time of the accident, the driver and passenger of the Subaru, police said, were transported to UPHS-Marquette where they were treated for serious injuries. Police confirmed one fatality, the 16-year-old girl, shortly after 3 p.m. Friday.

The driver of the semi was unharmed.
