MARQUETTE — A two-year-old buck deer penned at Presque Isle Park was killed and removed from “The Island” early Saturday morning, City Police Chief Donald C. Hermanson reported today. He said the animal was being kept in a special enclosure north of the regular pen in which the balance of the herd is confined. According to Hermanson, the deer was clubbed to death sometime before dawn Saturday and then was hauled to a waiting car and removed. The incident was reminiscent of a similar occurance about two years ago, when “Whitey” — a deer popular with both young and old visitors to Presque Isle Park — was killed and stolen. That incident, however, did not occur during the deer hunting season.
