MARQUETTE — Local pharmacies are offering free Quit Kits as part of the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout Nov. 19. Pharmacists Dale Bayer of Snyder Drug in Harvey and Kent Jenema, ShopKo Pharmacy in Marquette, showed samples of the kit, along with Kyle Detmers, area representative of the cancer society. Also participating in the promotion are Joe Morgan of Pamida Pharmacy in Ishpeming and Dave Campana of Campus Pharmacy, Marquette. Kits are available free while supplies last. The project is co-sponsored by the Marquette County Tobacco and Health Coalition.

ISHPEMING — Hunting south of Ishpeming, Bruce Jarvinen downed an eight-point buck on opening day. The buck weighed in at 190 pounds. Alvin Nelson bagged one of the largest does (175 pounds) so far this season south of Ishpeming. Matt Kokkila filled his license with a 130-pound four-pointer Wednesday, while hunting south of Ishpeming. Ted Prideaux came in from south of Ishpeming with an eight-pointer weighing 180 pounds. Carl Lindquist completed his hunting by getting a 200-pounder with eight points. He was hunting north of Ishpeming.
