Thousands now without power in region

MARQUETTE — Thousands of people are without power today due to high winds.

The Marquette Board of Light and Power indicated that as of early afternoon, about 1,600 customers were without power, with many concentrated near County Road 480 and Grove Street.

Crews are working on restoring power, said the BLP, which has an outage map at its website at mblp.org where people also may report outages.

The Upper Peninsula Power Company reported that of early afternoon, 455 customers were without power in the city of Ontonagon, with several located in Alger and Keweenaw counties.

We Energies reported these outages: 451 customers in Baraga County, 52 in Marquette County, 181 in Houghton County, 406 in Iron County and several dozen in Ontonagon County.
