SAULT STE. MARIE — Regents of Lake Superior State University have given new President Robert Arbuckle broad powers to shape his administration. The powers include hiring or firing key administrative personnel and restructuring his cabinet. The regents approved the policy last week, although board member Tom Weiss said he felt “nervous” about suspending the bylaws that require the president to obtain board approval of major personnel changes.

HARVEY — Postmaster John S. Courtney today announced the opening of a new contract postal station, in Harvey. The station, which will be the fourth such unit in the Marquette area, will open Monday. It will be located at Shaw’s Gulf Service Station, U.S. 41, with Glen H. Shaw, station owner, as the contractor. Courtney said the new contract postal station will be designated as the Harvey Community Branch. The postmaster said the following postal facilities will be provided at the contract station: money orders, registry, certified mail, parcel post (ordinary, insured and C.O.D.), and the sale of all necessary postal supplies. Hours of the postal service will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except Sundays and holidays.
