MUNISING — Alger Communities that Care, in partnership with Pictured Rocks Pizza, will host the sixth annual Pizza with Purpose fundraiser with proceeds used to fund suicide prevention activities at Alger County schools.

The event will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the popular Munising pizzeria, famous for gourmet wood-fired pizza.

A special 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. time slot is reserved both days for local businesses to order pizzas for their employees.

Owners Jeff, Kim and Sean Cromell will once again donate all the revenue from pizza sales to Alger CTC to be used to help fund the Alger County Schools social worker program, telehealth services, community and school training and presentations, along with other programming and QPR training.

Last year’s event raised more than $22,000.

“It’s a fun way for us to raise lots of ‘dough’ for a very worthwhile cause,” said Bobbi Ayotte, Alger CTC president in a news release, “and we’re extremely thankful for the generosity of the Cromell family, as well as our other sponsors.”

Anyone wishing to support the fundraiser can call in their order at 906-387-5700 for pick up or outdoor dining or they can order at the door — cash and checks only. Checks can be made out to the Alger CTC.

Menu options include a two topping pizza or pasta (garlic alfredo or marinara sauce) with garlic bread for only $12. Additional toppings are available for an extra $1 and include pepperoni, sausage, ham, chicken, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, pineapple or banana peppers.

A limited number of T-shirts celebrating the event (size small through extra-large) will also be available for sale. Miners Pasties and Ice Cream, Pictured Rocks Kayaking and the Munising Volunteer Fire Department are sponsoring the T-shirts.

Ayotte credited volunteers for the success of the annual fundraiser.

“We have a solid core group of adults and kids who have stepped up every year who truly want to help and understand our why. Our local businesses, schools, and community eat pizza and pasta for these two days and we appreciate their support,” she said. “We are making a difference and we will continue to.”

Pictured Rocks Pizza is located at 106 Birch St. in Munising. For those who cannot make the event but would still like to contribute, donations can be mailed to the Alger CTC at 413 Maple St., Munising MI 49862.
