SKANDIA — Following decades in an old general store, the Skandia Post Office has moved across the street. Operations have moved from the former Kellstrom General Store at 217 Kreiger Drive to the Skandia Township Recreation Center at 224 Kreiger Drive. Post-mistress Myrna McDowell and more space is needed for the office, which serves 688 customers on two rural routes. The first day of operation in the new office was Wednesday. Hours will remain the same — 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

ISHPEMING — The St. Rocco Italian society will observe St. Rocco’s day tomorrow with the customary festivities which have been held annually in Ishpeming for many years. The Negaunee city band has been engaged for the day and will play a short concert in front of St. John’s parochial school at 9 o’clock while members of the society are assembling. At 10 o’clock the society, headed by the band, will march to St. John’s Catholic church where solemn high mass will be celebrated at 10:15 a.m. by the Rev. Henry Kron, who will preach a sermon in Italian. After the church services the parade will weave through the principal streets of the city. The Italians will hold their annual outdoor activities in the afternoon on the Oliver baseball grounds where there will be refreshment booths. Once of the features of the afternoon program will be kittenball games, starting at 2:30, when the Ebners Wild Cats and National Mine girls’ teams will play followed by a contest between the Junction Tigers and the Ishpeming All Stars. After the ball games there will be races and other sports events. The evening program will consist of a band concert, from 7 until 10:15 p.m. and sports and amusement features.
