ISHPEMING — The already famous Upper Peninsula pasty will be served up to a national television audience Thursday morning. Lawry’s Pasties of West Ishpeming will be highlighted on the national telecast “CBS This Morning” at 8:15 a.m. The Lawry family’s award-winning pasties have been praised in several books authored by Michael and Jane Stern, including “Road Food — Good Food.” The Sterns are scheduled to talk about pasties and other dishes on the morning talk show. Lawry’s sent six pasties to New York Monday. Lawry’s Pasties, located on U.S. 41, is also in the Culinary Hall of Fame. During the summer, Lawry’s co-owners Peter and Kellie Lawry make 500 pasties each day. The business goes through 500 pounds of potatoes each week, along with 300 pounds of beef and 250 pounds each of onions and rutabagas. Grandma Madelyne Lawry and her husband Jim opened the doors 45 years ago. Two years ago, Peter and Kellie purchased the business from his mother.

MARQUETTE — Recent withdrawals from the John D. Pierce Laboratory School have left a limited number of vacancies for children in the lower elementary grades, according to Dr. A.R. Schwartz, principal. All teachers in the school hold master’s degrees and have previous teaching experience before being employed by the college. Because of their backgrounds, teachers are encouraged to participate in recent classroom trends, such as team teaching, programmed teaching, or machine teaching. All experiments are controlled so they will not interfere with regular classroom procedures or prove detrimental to individual students. Students are admitted to John D. Pierce by application only. Forms are available in the principal’s office.

Starting at $3.23/week.
