Bike ride to raise funds Saturday

MENOMINEE — The 2022 LeowStrong Bike Ride will take place on June 25 in Menominee County as well as Marinette County in Wisconsin.

The LeowStrong Bike Ride is a fundraising event that honors and remembers the late Dr. Tom Leow, an orthopedic surgeon in the community for 17 years, who passed away in November 2015 of cancer. The goal of the event is to help and support those with chronic illness, encourage healthy lifestyles and to keep Leow’s memory alive and active in the community.

The Greater Marinette-Menominee YMCA is in charge of the event. The event will kick off with a rider send off and encouragement from YMCA Mission Director Jenni Campbell, along with Bellin Health President and CEO Chris Woleske. Breanne Leow, the late Dr. Leow’s daughter, will sing the national anthem. The bike ride has also collaborated with St. Vincent De Paul of Marinette to offer a gently used bike collection the day of the ride to help replenish its supply. All bikes will be taken by the St. Vincent team, fixed up and sold in the thrift store at the lowest local price or vouchered for free to those based on determined need. Since taking over leadership, the ride has changed to the last Saturday of June, using scenic routes along the Menominee River, with all routes starting and stopping at the YMCA — a family ride of 5.6 miles, 25 miles, 50 miles and 100 miles. There are six supported rest stops, along with food and entertainment. Registration is currently open at www.mmymca.org, with registration closing on June 24. Reach out to the YMCA at 906-863-9983 for more questions and information.
