MARQUETTE — Six Upper Peninsula high school students are eligible to represent the United States in the 24th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) to be held in July in Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia, Pa. The students, who were selected by their teachers as being the best chemistry students from their schools, are Robert Young, Houghton; Robert Ellerbruch, Negaunee; Barbara Harrington, Gwinn; Anita Saluja, Sault Ste. Marie; Michael Smit, Marquette; and Anita Rivers, Gladstone. The students can now take part in an intensive 10-day study camp during the second week of June in Colorado. Four of the students from the camp will make up the U.S. team competing in the IChO. This is the first year the competition will take place in the U.S. Last year, the U.S. team came in fifth among 28 nations.

MARQUETTE — Area residents were reminded today that the hearing testing mobile unit of the Michigan Association for Better Hearing was set up here today and will remain in the city through Friday. The unit, arrangements for the appearance of which were made by the Marquette-Alger County Medical Society with the Michigan Association for Better Hearing, a United Fund recipient agency, is at Martin’s Drug Store. It will be open until 6 p.m. today and from 1 to 9 p.m. both tomorrow and Friday. Tests are administered to adults free of charge. Members of the Marquette-Alger County Medical Society Auxiliary, the Visiting Nurse Association, Gold Star Mothers and Women’s Relief Corps are handling registrations for the hearing unit in Marquette.
