Skilled training center tour on tap

MARQUETTE — The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will tour the Union Carpenters, Millwrights, Apprenticeship Skilled Training Center from 2 to 4 p.m. May 25.

Attendees can see the new 32,000-square-foot training center; one of three such centers in Michigan. The program is knowledge-based and uses hands-on training. The new smart-board technology helps students stay engaged and gives additional online learning resources, which in turn helps students learn more and do better. Approximately 47,000 job openings are expected annually, which allow professional trades workers to bring home the kind of pay that can make a difference in their lives.

Brian Kerrigan, regional director and program instructors will tell attendees how this came about and lead a tour through the center. Attendees may get some firsthand feedback from some of the apprentices. The location is 370 U.S. Highway 41 E, Negaunee. Cost: $3 for NCLL members, $10 for non-members.

For more information. contact Sally Olsen at 906-226-8347 or at solsen@nmu.edu. The cancellation deadline is Wednesday.
