Hikers to hold membership session

MARQUETTE — The North Country Trail Hikers Chapter will host a general membership meeting open to the public at 7 p.m. Jan. 11 in the Community Room at Peter White Public Library.

The event will include a short film and an update from trail crew leaders on the state of the trail in this region. Attendees will also have a chance to provide feedback or ideas related to future chapter group activities and learn about various volunteer opportunities.

The NCT Hikers is the first chartered chapter of the North Country Trail Association. It is based in Marquette, but spans 120 miles of the central Upper Peninsula. Its 29 trail segments begin at Long Lake Outlet just west of Craig Lake State Park, travel across Marquette County, and end at Rock River Road in western Alger County.

This region represents a portion of the North Country National Scenic Trail, which is the longest in the National Trails System. It stretches 4,800 miles across eight states, from North Dakota to Vermont.

The NCT Hikers Chapter will also host a “Trail and Ale” casual gathering at Drifa Brewing Company, located next to the North Country Trail in Marquette, at 7 p.m. Jan. 20.

For more information on the meeting, or to inquire about membership in the North Country Trail Hikers Chapter, send a message to nct@northcountrytrail.org.
