MARQUETTE — Children will no longer be running along parade floats in Marquette to catch candy. The city commission Monday made changes in parade permit requirements that prohibit throwing objects from parade vehicles. The commission is also requiring those in charge of small parade vehicles to personally guarantee that drivers are trained in safety techniques. The change was recommended by city’s Traffic/Parking Advisory Committee, which was concerned that children would be injured running into the street to retrieve something thrown from a parade vehicle.

MARQUETTE — Earlier last week, Marquette was basking in 55 degree temperatures and there was no snow on the ground. But this morning the city was in the midst of a cold wave and residents were digging out of the worst December snowfall in history, with the 19-inch snow depth in Marquette being the deepest in the nation- except for the mountain states. It began snowing late Monday night and when it finished yesterday a total of 14.3 inches had come down. That’s the most for any 24 hour period in the Marquette Weather Bureau’s records for December.
