MARQUETTE — The cross country ski trail at Presque Isle Park and the Fit Strip are now open, the Marquette Parks and Recreation Department announced. The Fit Strip diagonal trail is lighted from dusk until 11 p.m. nightly. The “skating” trail is unlit and skaters are asked not to use diagonal trails at either the Fit Strip or Presque Isle. Weather permitting, trails are normally groomed on Fridays and Mondays, but grooming schedules will vary on holidays. Because seasonal tags for trail use are no longer required, participants are asked to contribute at the orange donation tube to help defray operational costs. The Fit Strip is located between Lincoln Avenue and 7th Street.

ISHPEMING — Theft of a buck that was left hanging behind a barn in the Angeline Location here was reported by Ishpeming city police today. The deer, a 115-pound spikehorn, was owned by Paul Carson. The theft was reported to police by Harry Gall. He said the deer was hanging behind the barn and someone sneaked in, cut the rope holding the deer, and carried the animal away. The theft occurred Monday night, police reported. Officers said that tracks in the snow showed the culprit carried the deer across the Owl Field near Lake Angeline to a parked car waiting there.
