The Navy celebrated its birthday Oct. 13 Lawrence celebrated his birthday on the same day. His father, Floyd A. Lawrence, celebrated his birthday, too. The senior Lawrence was also in the Navy and retired as a chief petty officer. For the record, the senior chief was 40, the chief was 73, and the Navy was 216.
