MARQUETTE — Delta County voters will decide today whether to increase taxes to pay for 911 emergency telephone service, which will also determine its availability for 150 phone customers in Marquette County. The election affects residents in a three-mile area of Skandia Township, the southern half of Turin Township, most of Ewing Township and the southeast corner of Wells Township, according to Pat Gruber, a planner in the Marquette County Resource Management and Development Department. The telephones use the same exchanges as the Delta County towns of Rock, Cornell and Perkins, Gruber said. Voters in Delta County are being asked to approve a .66 mill property tax increase to pat for the system’s operation, start-up and maintenance, said Delta County Clerk Wallace C. Thorsen. He said reaction to the proposal has been mixed.
