MARQUETTE — Pam Thompson of Marquette has been selected to receive the Office Administration Scholar Award from the Office Systems and Business Education Department at Northern Michigan University. Thompson is a recent graduate of NMU with a bachelor’s degree in office administration and a grade point average of 3.99. She is the wife of James Thompson of Marquette and the daughter of Deanne Calovecchi Iron Mountain.

90 years ago

MARQUETTE — Thirty-four cases of contagious diseases were reported to the city health officer during May. Chicken-pox headed the list with 15 cases, and mumps was the second with 14 cases. There were three cases of lobar pneumonia and one case of broncho pneumonia and measles. There were two deaths from contagious diseases. One smallpox vaccination, one diphtheria treatment, and one venereal disease examination were given. Four persons completed the series of diphtheria treatments. One person was bitten by a dog. There were 34 persons at the clinics held in the health office during May. Thirteen attended the baby clinic, 12 in the chest clinic and nine the mental clinics.
