MARQUETTE -- The League of Women Voters of Marquette County will meet via Zoom from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday
As a special presentation at the meeting, Jo Foley will provide an overview of The For the People Act, which was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives earlier this month. This act is intended to "expand Americans' access to the ballot box, reduce the influence of big money in politics, strengthen ethics rules for public servants, and implement other anti-corruption measures for the purpose of fortifying our democracy, and for other purposes," officials said in the release.
With "strong support of the nationwide League of Women Voters, The For the People Act now moves to the U.S. Senate," according to the release. The presentation will help attendees improve their understanding of this historic piece of legislation.
All current members will receive email reminders with a Zoom invitation and agenda. Others are invited to join in and can do so by reaching out prior to the meeting via email to dthomsona@gmail.com
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
