Clean energy webinar Friday

MARQUETTE — The fifth in a series of webinars organized as the U.P. Clean Energy Conference will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday via Zoom.

There is no cost for the conference, visit https://www.upcleanenergy.org to register.

The conference objective is to leverage recommendations from the U.P. Energy Task Force report that was submitted to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on March 31 as “a catalyst for a more self-reliant, sustainable and affordable U.P. energy future,” according to a news release.

Friday’s event will feature two-panel sessions, leading off with a discussion on the U.P. Energy Task Force’s report and recommendations.

Dr. Richelle Winkler from Michigan Tech will moderate the panel with several U.P. Energy Task Force members who are U.P. residents, including Jenn Hill, Michael Larson and Tony Retaskie.

The second session will be a policy conversation with state representatives and senators about the task force’s legislative recommendations, moderated by Marty Fittante from InvestUP.

Sens. Ed McBroom and Wayne Schmidt and Reps. Greg Markkanen, Sara Cambensy, Beau LaFave, and John Damoose are invited to participate in the webinar.

Michigan Tech University is hosting the Zoom event and is among a dozen U.P.-based organizations sponsoring the webinar series, including the Superior Watershed Partnership, Northern Michigan University, the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians, Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, Bay Mills Indian Community, Michigan Energy Options, and all three U.P. regional planning agencies.

The final U.P. Clean Energy Virtual Conference date in May is yet to be determined, organizers said. Register at /https://www.upcleanenergy.org
