MARQUETTE — A welcome home celebration for Operation Desert Shield/Storm personnel is planned for May 18 in Marquette, according to the chief executive officer of the Marquette-Area Chamber of Commerce. Herb Parsons said the Marquette chamber, plus the Greater Ishpeming Chamber of Commerce, the Negaunee Irontown USA association, the Chocolay and Gwinn business associations and the K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base Public Affairs office, will coordinate the effort. The parade featuring Sawyer personnel, Michigan National Guard units, service organizations, veterans groups and area bands will take place on Marquette’s West Washington Street.

CHOCOLAY — William Rushford was elected president of the Chocolay Township Parent Teacher association at a meeting Monday evening in Silver Creek School. Members of the PTA approved a contribution towards the cost of sending a representative of the PTA Council to the Michigan PTA Association convention to be held in Detroit April 25, and heard a summarization by Howard Kitzman of resolutions to be presented at the Detroit meeting. Mrs. Howard T. Marks’ morning kindergarten won the attendance pennant at this meeting. A social hour followed the session.
