MARQUETTE — The Marquette County Commission Monday approved $2,000 to bring in two consultation firms to discuss improvements at the Shiras Zoo. The Kestrel Design Group Inc. of Wheeling, Ill., and Cost of Wisconsin Inc. of Rockfield, Wis., will visit the site to determine what they believe needs to be addressed and changed to improve the quality of the zoo. Both firms have worked on similar projects in the Midwest, according to information from the Shiras Zoo Improvement Committee. The $2,000 will be taken from the city’s $40,000 contingency fund.

MARQUETTE — The Marquette chapter of Women of the Moose is sponsoring a card party tomorrow afternoon, beginning at 2, in the Moose Lodge clubrooms, 308 S. Front St. Proceeds from the party will be turned over to the general fund for use in various chapter projects. Mrs. Matt Akkala, chairman, today asked all members to arrange a table and reminded them that any card game may be played. There will be prizes at each table she said, and other special prizes. Lunch will be served after the card session. The executive board of the Women of the Moose will meet Monday evening at 7:30, and at 8 p.m. there will be the regular chapter award presented and enrollment of Mrs. Harris Oust, a candidate for membership is also scheduled.
