SENEY– Improvements to the country’s 470 wildlife refuges, including three in the Upper Peninsula, is being reviewed by a subcommittee of the U.S. House Merchant Marine and Fisheries Committee. “I support this initiative, which could have a significant impact on the six wildlife refuges in norther Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, said Rep. Bob Davis, who is the top ranking Republican on the committee. The Michigan federal wildlife refuges are the Seney, the Huron, and Harbor Island in the U.P. and the Kirkland Warbler and Michigan Islands refuges downstate. “These refuges, and the hundreds of others across the nation are crucial to the future of threatened species of plants and animals, especially migratory water fowl,” Davis said.
