No injuries reported after logging truck spill in Marquette Township

By Journal Staff

MARQUETTE — Traffic was reduced to one lane following a logging truck accident that took place at about 11:30 a.m. Monday on U.S. 41 West, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office was dispatched to the Brickyard Road Roundabout on U.S. 41 West at Brickyard Road in Marquette Township for the accident. Deputies arrived at the scene and found a 2008 Kenworth logging truck hauling a pup trailer, owned by Jake’s Excavating & Landscaping, LLC, located in Ironwood, and driven by a 31-year-old Wisconsin male.

An investigation showed the truck was traveling eastbound through the roundabout when a mechanical problem caused the axle on the pup trailer to break. As a result, a small number of logs were spilled from the trailer to the shoulder.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no injuries were reported.

The pup trailer could not by driven from the crash site. As a result, westbound U.S. 41 was reduced to one lane of safe travel for about four hours while a second logging truck came to the scene and unloaded the broken trailer of logs and spilled load.

CrossRoads Truck Repair removed the damaged pup trailer and eastbound U.S. 41 traffic was opened for travel.
