ISHPEMING — Iron Range Cable Corp. Thursday will officially start sending a selection of television programs from three networks-ABC, NBC, and CBS-into homes in Ishpeming and Negaunee. The company had hoped to have its services operating earlier, but was unable to microwave the signal from Signal Hill in Tilden Township into the cities because of a “freeze” of permits by the Federal Communications Commission. In order to avoid a further delay, Iron Range had to string four miles of coaxial cable from Signal Hill to the cities to get its “signal” for distribution to customers. “This work was done under unfavorable weather conditions,” said Robert E. Coe, general manager of Iron Range, “and only through the efforts of our fine technicians have we been able to accomplish it. We are continuing to hook up those who have subscribed as rapidly as possible,” Coe said. “This is being done on a priority basis according to neighborhood areas.” Coe said that all new subscribers would be connected into the system as soon as the current backlog of orders has been filled. Four crews are now working to connect home television subscribers with the cable system, Coe said.
