Miner training classes available

MARQUETTE — Bay College Training and Development will be offering a 24-hour New Miner and an 8-Hour Training in partnership with the Mine Safety and Health Administration.

The three-day “New Miner” training covers all aspects of the initial training requirements for owners and operators under 30 CFR Part 48 & 46. The objective is to train new and inexperienced miners on safety and health hazards, employee rights and responsibilities, and job-related safety procedures. The 8-hour Refresher training will be held on the third day of the New Miner training and covers the annual training requirements for owners and operators under 30 CFR parts 46 & 48. These trainings satisfy the MSHA class room requirements; however, companies training under Part 46 must have an approved training plan.

The MSHA 24-hour New Miner training will be offered on March 8, 9, and 10 from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.

The MSHA 8-hour Refresher training will be held on March 10 from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. Registration is limited to 15 participants and pre-registration is required. All participants must have an email address, computer with a camera/microphone, and sufficient internet to stream videos.

Bay College will provide a computer lab for those unable to meet the technology requirements. The cost of the 24-Hour New Miner training is $189 and the 8-hour Refresher is $59.

A boxed lunch will be provided.
