Zyburt retains sheriff’s seat

MARQUETTE — Democratic incumbent Marquette County Sheriff Greg Zyburt has won his bid for re-election for a four-year term, garnering 25,018 votes.

His Republican challenger, Joseph Kozub, received 11,413 votes in Tuesday’s election.

“I’m really pleased with the results. And humbled and honored that the people of Marquette County have chosen me to continue to serve as their sheriff,” Zyburt said. “This has been a very challenging year for everyone and I appreciate all who took the time to get out and vote. I look forward to the next four years, to try to bring more programs, grants, to try to bring new technology to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.”

Election results remain unofficial until they have been certified by the Marquette County Board of Canvassers, which is expected to meet at 10 a.m. today.
