MARQUETTE — Holiday season shoppers in downtown Marquette won’t have to worry about paying parking meter fees on Friday evenings. The city commission approved a Traffic and Parking Advisory Committee plan to waive the Friday evening meter fees in order to encourage downtown shopping. Previously, motorists were required to use parking meters after 5 p.m. Fridays. That requirement will be waived between Nov. 23 and Dec. 28. Time restrictions also will be lifted in the downtown area for Friday evenings.

MARQUETTE — The Father Marquette Circle of the Columbia Squires yesterday held its annual fall imitation of candidates for Squiredom. Fifteen boys became new members of the circle. After the initiation, which began at 4 in the afternoon, a buffet supper was held in honor of the new Squires. Guest speakers were Merton Lambert, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Marquette; William Beattie, the Rev. Charles Oliver, the father prior of the Ontonagon Circle, and the Rev. David LeLievre of St. John’s Parish. The Knights of Columbus Council here sponsors the Squires, an organization of Catholic youth.
