West end bike race goes virtual

ISHPEMING — The West End Health Foundation’s WEIRD indoor bike race rescheduled to Dec. 5 is going virtual due to COVID-19.

Instead of holding an in-person indoor bike race, organizers have decided to shift the race to a non-competitive virtual event that will be held between Saturday and Dec. 5.

The goal of this event is to promote health in the West End of Marquette County and raise money for non-profit partners Start the Cycle and the Range Area Mountain Bike Association.

Those who have already registered for the event will receive information about the virtual event via email. Those who have not registered for the event can still do so by today at the RunSignUp registration website https://runsignup.com/Race/MI/Ishpeming/WEIRD

Teams consist of 2-8 participants and there are categories for both adults and youth. Registration is $50 for each adult team member and $25 for each youth team member.

Funds raised through racer registrations and sponsorships will be donated to Start the Cycle to continue successful programs related to bicycling. RAMBA will use the funds for the maintenance and improvement of mountain bike trails located in western Marquette County.

Once registered, individuals or teams can participate in the event by riding a bike indoors or outside as a team or individually. Participants are asked to tag a photo, collage of photos or video of themselves riding their bike to the WEIRD Facebook page. The WEIRDER the ride or the costume the better. Prizes will be awarded to those who are registered and post a photo or video.

More information about the West End Health Foundation and the WEIRD is available at westendhf.org.
