COVID crop swap Saturday

MARQUETTE — All gardeners are invited to Marquette’s second Annual Community COVID-19 compliant Crop Swap to be held at Harlow Park, along West Bluff Street, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The event is sponsored by Transition Marquette and the Queen City Seed Library.

This year’s Community Crop Swap will highlight the need for people to get the most from their gardening efforts and ensure nothing is wasted. The Crop Swap allows for home gardeners who have a surplus of garden produce to “swap” with gardeners who have a different type of garden surplus.

Swapping allows for gardeners to “smooth out” or “fill in” gaps in their own garden output. For instance, if one gardener has an abundance of cucumbers but no winter squash, a trade can happen if someone with several pumpkins and a desire to make pickles shows up.

This event will observe strict COVID-19 compliance measures. To participate in the Crop Swap, all participants must register in advance by calling 906-360-6839 or sending an email to transitionmarquette@gmail.com. Remaining produce at the end of the event will be donated to the Warming Center of Marquette.

For more information, contact Michael Riesterer at transitionmarquette@gmail.com or call 906-360-6839.
