Beach clean-up on Thursday

MARQUETTE — The Superior Watershed Partnership and Great Lakes Conservation Corps invites community members, families and students to a community beach restoration and cleanup event between noon and 3 p.m. Thursday at Clark Lambros’ Park.

Volunteers will gather with social distance at the park with the option to plant beach grass or collect litter from Marquette beaches.

The SWP will provide planting tools, trash bags, work gloves, extra water and snacks for volunteers. Volunteers are asked to bring a face covering and water bottle, and dress appropriately for the weather.

GLCC crew members will be available to teach volunteers how to plant beach grass. Planting beach grass and cleaning the beaches are especially important as autumn approaches.

GLCC program manager Tyler Penrod said planting beach grass will stabilize Marquette’s dunes and removing litter to keep it from washing into the lake as the fall waves get stronger.
