MARQUETTE — The final concert of the season by the Marquette City Band will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Presque Isle Band Shell. David Dagenais, band director for the Republic Michigamme Schools, will be the guest conductor. A variety of music will be included, including Washington’s “Grays March,” Bach’s “Prelude and Fugue in B-Flat,” selections from “The Sound of Music,” “Tango for Band,” Irish Tune from County Derry,” and “Valdres Concert March.”

90 years ago

HOUGHTON — The departments of physics, geology, and electrical engineering of the Michigan College of Mining and Technology are cooperating this summer in continuing the study of electrical resistibility of various rock formations in copper and iron district. The work is a part of the general research program of President W. O. Hotchkiss to concentrate research at the college along lines which will be of greatest assistance to the mining industries of the state. The object of the research studies is to obtain more intimate geological information concerning the district. This information will be of value in directing exploration in the future.
