Crash injures 2 persons
HUMBOLDT — Two people were injured in a single-vehicle crash on Friday after in Humboldt Township, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies were dispatched to the area of U.S. 41 West near Marquette County Road FNO at about 3:15 p.m. Friday to investigate the accident. It was determined that while law enforcement and other first responders were traveling to the scene, the vehicle had two occupants who were entrapped in the vehicle.
First responders and law enforcement arrived on the scene and discovered the vehicle had left the roadway and became stuck in the trees down an embankment. Rangers from Van Riper State Park were dispatched with chainsaws to assist n the tree removal.
Law enforcement, first responders and park rangers extricated the two females from the vehicle. UP Health System Bell EMS transported the two females to UPHS-Bell in the city of Ishpeming with suspected minor injuries.
Upon further investigation, it was determined the vehicle was traveling westbound on U.S. 41 West when the driver lost control due to excessive vehicle speed and water on the roadway. The vehicle left the roadway on the north side while hydroplaning. The vehicle spun around while going down the embankment and entered the wood line backward.
The driver, a 20-year-old L’Anse resident, was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
Assisting the sheriff’s office on the scene were Van Riper State Park rangers, UPHS-Bell EMS, Rescue 131, Humboldt Township Fire, Ishpeming Township Fire and Antilla’s Towing.
