Bridge replacement underway

TRENARY — Work has begun to replace a bridge over Werners Creek in the southwest corner of Alger County, forcing temporary closure of a section of the Deadhorse Road, according to a release from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

“Replacing this bridge will allow for continued public access for recreation, as well as sustainable management of the state forest land,” Pete Glover of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ Forest Resources Division which is funding the project, said in the release.

The bridge is situated in Limestone Township, southwest of Trenary and Diffin, with the Deadhorse Road providing access to Delta County. Until the work is completed, the public will not be able to drive through.

“This bridge is used by hunters, especially during the firearm deer hunting season,” said John Pepin, DNR deputy public information officer, said in the release. “The bridge replacement project is expected to be completed three days before the opening of November deer hunting.”

Starting at $3.23/week.
