The Energy Show to air tonight
MARQUETTE — The Energy Show, an Upper Peninsula Environmental Coalition livestream series, will take place at 7 p.m. today with Mike Furmanski, the superintendent of Escanaba’s electric utility.
Furmanski will explain the ins and outs of running the city of Escanaba’s utility as well as the different types of utilities — investor-owned, cooperatives and municipal — and the bulk power transmission system in Michigan plus other networks that allow seamless electrical service in homes. He also will discuss utility rates in the Upper Peninsula and how renewable energy sources fit into the picture.
The second part of this episode is “Bone of Contention: Line 5 in the Straits of Mackinac.” Horst Schmidt and Evan Zimmermann will wind through the current legal wrangles between the state of Michigan and Enbridge, the pipeline owner.
