Historic calendars now available

ISHPEMING — Historic 2021 calendars featuring the Ishpeming area are now available at several West End locations.

The Friends of the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library announce that their most recent calendar may be purchased at Rare Earth Goods and Cafe on Division Street and at the Main Street Antique Mall.

Friends spokesperson Marilyn Andrew expressed special thanks to Pamela Dene Perkins of Rare Earth Goods and David Aeh of the Antique Mall for their cooperation in making the calendars available as the Carnegie Library is not open to the public at present although curbside pickup of books is being offered.

The calendar photographs include a map of the city of Ishpeming in 1881 and extend to the second half of the 20th century with a Barbie Club of young girls with their dolls and a busy summer day of swimmers at Cedar Lake.

There are photos of an ice throne, a dog sled race, a long ago parade, and several downtown businesses which are now only memories.

One of the most interesting photos is of a World War II bond rally which was attended by comedians Bud Abbott and Lou Costello.

Andrew stated that the photos were obtained from various sources and singled out Jack Deo of Views of the Past as being particularly helpful.
