GWINN — The Gwinn Area Business Association was recognized recently by the Michigan Education Association. The MEA presented a Friend of Education plaque to the association for its contributions to the High School Student of the Month program. Students who are honored receive gifts from area businesses. This is the first time an Upper Peninsula organization has received the statewide honor. There have been only three Michigan awards given statewide this year. Plaques were awarded to Jeannette Maki, treasurer of GABA; Susi Dahlke, chairwoman of the Gwinn Education Association/Public Relations; Dale Weingartner, president of GABA; and Sally Weingartner, secretary of GABA.
