Hit-and-run inquiry continues

MARQUETTE — The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate a vehicle and pedestrian accident that occurred about 3:45 p.m. May 7 on County Road 550 between Partridge Bay Trail and Sugarloaf Mountain in Marquette Township.

The initial release from the sheriff’s office said a northbound vehicle struck a pedestrian and then left the scene. The pedestrian, a 23-year-old male from Marquette, was transported to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of serious injuries.,

On Tuesday, the sheriff’s office received a tip. Based on the tip, the abandoned suspect van was located in a wooded area on County Road KB near Brown Deer Road in Powell Township. The van was towed to the Michigan State Police Forensic Lab in Marquette for processing.

In a release, the sheriff’s office said it “would like to thank the public for providing crucial information in this case. A suspect has been identified.”

The investigation is ongoing and will be submitted to the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office for review upon completion.
