MARQUETTE — The “Bartender of the Year” fundraiser is underway at 15 local bars. The contest, which raises money to support education, research, and service programs of the American Cancer Society, continues until Feb. 28. Customers can support a bartender, waiter, or waitress by donating to the American Cancer Society. Each dollar contributed counts as one vote. A 7 p.m. celebration party is planned for March 6 at the Ramada Inn. Winners will be announced and prizes will be distributed. Participating establishments are Amigos, Best Western/Edgewater, Casa Calabria, Eastwood Lanes, Holiday Inn, Idle Time, J.T.’s Shaft, Northwoods, Ramada Inn, Remillards, the Shamrock, Third Base, the Village Pub, Wahlstroms, and Westwood Lanes.

NEGAUNEE — Marketing the golden anniversary of Scouting in this country, Boy Scout Troop 342 of Negaunee Township will hold a Parents’ Night on Monday, Feb. 8 in the new Negaunee Township Community Center.
Highlighting the program, which will get underway at 7 p.m., will be a Court of Honor at which several members of the troop will be presented merit badges and other recognition for special achievement.
Fred Sundling, Marquette Scout executive for the Marquette District, will present the unit with a National Camping Award which it won for 1959. Movies of troop activities, including the ski races held two weeks ago, will be shown, and refreshments will be served.
