Snowmobile crash injures two

BIG BAY — Two people involved in a snowmobile crash in Powell Township Saturday sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a crash between two snowmobiles that occurred on Trail 14 approximately 1.5 miles southwest of Big Bay in Powell.

The report stated that two sleds struck each other as they both navigated a curve.

A 19-year-old man from Akron, Ohio, driving a 2019 Polaris Pro RMK came around a curve and sideswiped a 2012 Ski-Doo 600 MXZ driven by a 52-year-old Muskegon man who was on the outside of the curve, a press release from the sheriff’s office states.

The two sleds collided, with both drivers hitting each other’s helmets. Both drivers were thrown from their sleds and were unconscious for a matter of moments. Both had companions riding with them who rendered first aid.

After a period of time, both drivers were able to drive to Cram’s General Store and meet with Powell Township EMS staff who were called to the scene.

Both riders were transported to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. This crash is still under investigation.

The sheriff’s office stated in the release that snowmobilers should use extreme caution when approaching a curve and at any road crossing.
