MANISTIQUE — The Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal single-person snowmobile accident that took place on Tuesday.

The sheriff’s office reported it received a call from Negaunee Regional at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday regarding the accident, which occurred off Schoolcraft County Road 448 on Trail 2.

The sheriff’s office, along with the Michigan State Police and Manistique Public Safety EMS, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, it was determined an unidentified male subject drove off the trail with his snowmobile and hit a group of trees, resulting in a fatality.

Burns Towing and the Faussett Family Funeral Home assisted law enforcement.

Names and further information are being withheld pending investigation and contacting family members.
