BIG BAY — Two individuals were injured in a snowmobile crash in Powell Township Friday.

Marquette County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a two-snowmobile crash around 4:07 p.m. on Trail 14, around 3/10ths of a mile north of Northwestern Road in Powell.

A 14-year-old male from Wauconda, Illinois, was traveling south when he saw oncoming traffic and moved to the right of the trail. He went up onto the encrusted bank of the trail rolling his sled on its side and into a northbound snowmobile driven by Evan Dunaway, 33, of Fraser. Both drivers were ejected from their snowmobiles. The 14-year-old injured his left leg and Dunaway injured his left ankle. Both were taken to UP Health Systems-Marquette for treatment. Speed and alcohol were not a factor in the crash.

Deputies were assisted on the scene by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Powell Township Fire and EMS and UP Health Systems EMS.
