Crash closes road, injures one

ECKERMAN — Michigan State Police troopers are investigating a two-vehicle personal injury accident that occurred at about 7:55 a.m. Friday in Trout Lake Township on M-123, north of Trout Lake.

The Michigan Department of Transportation and the Chippewa County Road Commission responded to the scene, the MSP reported.

M-123 was temporarily closed for investigation of the crash and to clear the vehicles from the road. M-123 reopened at about 12:40 p.m. All vehicles were cleared from the scene.

The driver of the first vehicle, Danielle Held, 28, of Newberry was northbound on M-123 when she lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center line and hit an oncoming Chippewa County Road Commission plow truck. Held received multiple lacerations to her arms and head and was transported to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital by Straits EMS. She later was airlifted to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in downstate Petoskey.

The driver of the plow truck, Ronald Manchem, 52, of Trout Lake did not receive any injuries.

Troopers were assisted by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the Michigan Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division out of the Sault Ste. Marie and St. Ignace posts, and the Hulbert Fire Department.
