Teen rescued from ice on bay

MUNISING — A teen was rescued from the ice of Munising Bay Tuesday.

At approximately 9:20 p.m., the Alger County Sheriff’s Office received a call from 17-year-old James Zielinski on Munising Bay who advised officers that he was on the ice near the Munising City Dock and the ice was beginning to crack as he was attempting to get to shore, a press release from the office states.

Munising City Police responded to observe the subject standing on the ice approximately 50 feet east of the Munising City dock. The Alger County Rescue 21 team was called to respond. They were able to extricate the subject by using the Rapid Deployment Craft. Zielinski was then escorted to the Alger County Ambulance where EMS personnel evaluated and treated him for low body temperatures. The victim was released from the scene to his father.
