MARQUETTE -- Two people were injured during a crash in Negaunee Township Wednesday.
Around noon, troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post responded to U.S. 41 east of Marquette Powersports in Negaunee Township in response to the report of a three-car personal injury crash, a press release from the MSP states.
The investigation revealed that an eastbound pickup truck on U.S. 41 lost control, crossed multiple lanes of traffic and struck two separate passenger cars in the westbound lane of the highway. The pickup truck was operated by Gary Gerard Perala of Negaunee. Perala was transported to UPHS-Marquette for an apparent non-life threatening head injury. All vehicles were occupied by one person each. The other drivers were identified as Leah Shanzi Ring of Marquette and Donna Fay Eliassen of Negaunee. Eliassen was also transported to the hospital for lower body injuries as she was entrapped in her vehicle and advanced extrication resources were utilized to remove her. Ring was checked by UPHS paramedics on scene and released. No citations were issued as the investigation is pending.
The MSP Negaunee Post reminds motorists to drive safely in adverse winter conditions. Adjust speeds to safely navigate snow and ice covered roadways. Drivers are also reminded to avoid practices of distracted driving, the press release states.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Negaunee Township Fire/EMS, UPHS-Marquette EMS and the Marquette County Sheriff's Office and rescue unit.
