Marquette Township Board to discuss 2020 budget, tax levy

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Township Board will hold public hearings regarding its 2020 budget and tax levy during a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Marquette Township Hall.

The estimated township tax levies are 4.8804 mills for township operating with estimated revenues of $1,283,602; a library millage of 0.9015 with expected revenue of $235,219; an Act 33 Fire millage of 2.8 mills which will garner an anticipated $693,524; a fire apparatus millage of .5970 mills which should raise $157,781; a .3980 law enforcement millage with estimated revenues of $105.187; and a road millage of 1.4925 mills which is anticipated to raise $392,544.

Following the public hearings, the board will consider adopting the 2020 tax levies and budget.

According to the agenda, board members will also consider adopting the township’s 2020 fee schedule.

Some of the changes to fees as proposed include: a 25 cent increase in monthly residential garbage collection fees from $14.50 to $14.75; a $100 increase from $1,375 to $1,475 for the replacement of a 2-inch water meter; and an increase in the wastewater volume — up to 1,000 gallons monthly, from $11.83 to $12.18.

The board will also consider scheduling a work session to discuss a proposed township manager contract as well as scheduling an interview for the fourth candidate for the manager’s position.

The candidate will remain anonymous until he is interviewed during a public meeting.

The board conducted interviews with three other candidates on Nov. 22, but none of the three garnered enough votes to be offered the position.
