County plow truck in rollover

ELY TOWNSHIP — A portion of U.S. 41 near Marquette County Road CN in Ely Township was closed for around an hour Thursday after a county plow truck rolled over in the area. No injuries were reported.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police were dispatched to the scene around 3:02 p.m.

The truck, operated by a 53-year-old Ishpeming man, was clearing snow near a guardrail and the “snow pulled the truck, with the wing plow engaged, off the side of the road,” according to the sheriff’s office.

U.S. 41 was closed down in both directions while Crossroads Truck Repair and Towing and the Marquette County Road Commission worked to remove the plow from the ditch, police said.

Sheriff’s office officials said in a press release that they “would like to remind all motorists that while operating a vehicle it is necessary to slow down for emergency vehicles and move over when possible. During hazardous road conditions, please limit in-vehicle distractions and focus on driving while emergency crews work to make the roadways safer.”
