Structure fire extinguished
MARQUETTE — Marquette County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of heavy smoke in the area of South Vandenboom Avenue in Marquette Township Friday evening.
Around 9:58 p.m. deputies arrived to find an abandon concrete structure actively on fire, a press release from the sheriff’s office states.
Marquette Township Fire and Rescue was able to extinguish the fire with assistance of Chocolay Township fire and Marquette fire departments. Firefighters stayed on scene and continued to investigate the fire until about 1:08 a.m.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fire with the assistance of the Michigan State Police and Marquette Township Fire and Rescue. The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office is seeking any additional information on suspicious persons or activity seen in the area of South Vandenboom Avenue near Whetstone Village.
