MARQUETTE — Anytime Fitness of Marquette is teaming up with the Marquette Women’s Center “to help those in our community who have been or are current victims of domestic or sexual violence” through a team training fundraiser to be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to Anytime Fitness.

No membership is needed, but participants are asked to bring $5, as all proceeds will go to the Women’s Center, organizers said.

“The Women’s Center is an amazing organization who cares deeply about the safety of the men in women in our community, and works hard to make sure any victim or survivor has a safe place and support group they can confide in,” organizers at Anytime Fitness Marquette said in a press release. “Please consider donating to the Women’s Center, even if you can’t make it to the team training fundraiser. We are also collecting nonperishable canned food items. You may drop off your donations at the main office. “

The Women’s Center, which has provided its free and confidential services to thousands of people since 1973, “supports female and male victims/survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Alger and Marquette Counties through programs that protect, educate, advocate, counsel, and empower,” according to a press release.

The Women’s Center provides a safe shelter through its Harbor House, has a domestic violence/sexual assault response team, and offers the “Sasawin Project” which helps survivors create escape plans that include safe placement for their pets.

The Women’s Center also has a resale shop, Pakratz, where residents can volunteer and donate items to help those in need.
