Do you own a rare book?

ISHPEMING — From 1-4 p.m. Saturday, David White, Ishpeming resident and amateur bibliophile, will offer assistance to patrons of the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library desiring to know if they own books with special value or importance. Examples might be first editions, books signed by the author, or very old books.

Anyone interested in an assessment is asked to call the library at 906-486-4381 to schedule an appointment. Each individual will be limited to five books or 10 minutes of White’s time, depending on how many individuals sign up. White will meet with participants in the library’s Leverton Community Room on the lower level.

White has been working with vintage and collectible books for 30 years, beginning with an interest in early Michigan authors of fiction. Since then, his hobby has led to buying and selling books. White states that “placing a monetary value on a book is always difficult as it not only depends on rarity but also on demand, which fluctuates with the economy.”
